The 2024-25 annual report for HMP Wormwood Scrubs is now published.

In July 2023 the Chief Inspector of Prisons declared HMP Bristol ‘one of the most unsafe prisons in the country’. The 2024-2025 annual report from the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) at HMP Bristol (published 11 December 2025), draws attention to the areas of sustained improvement observed in the prison, while highlighting the ongoing concerns that the Board still has.

Despite the Independent Monitoring Board’s (IMB) 2023 thematic report warning that women in acute mental distress were being imprisoned due to a chronic shortage of secure psychiatric hospital beds, two years later the IMB’s 2024–25 annual report for HMP/YOI Bronzefield (published 10 December 2025) highlights that these serious concerns remain largely unresolved.

A rise in the number of young adults at high security HMP Belmarsh is taking a toll on staff and other prisoners, according to the prison’s Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) in its annual report, published on the 29 of November 2025. 

The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) has today (26 November 2025) published a report on the use of force against people in immigration detention.  IMBs’ findings reveal a troubling pattern of force being applied inconsistently, disproportionately, and without adequate justification, often undermining the dignity and welfare of highly vulnerable individuals.

The shortage of prison officers and the increasing proportion of inexperienced staff remain the key concerns for the Independent Management Board (IMB) at HMP Bullingdon. The Board’s 2024-25 annual report, published today (26 November 2025), highlights the impact this has had on the prison’s regime and the knock-on effect on progression and resettlement opportunities for prisoners.
