Adroddiad Blynyddol o Fwrdd Monitro Annibynnol HMP Caerdydd ar gyfer blwyddyn adrodd 1 Medi 2024 – 31 Awst 2025.

The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) for HMP Cardiff has highlighted in its annual report for 2024-25 (published on 22 January 2026) that incidents of self-harm among prisoners have reduced by 50% and use of force by 25%. While welcoming these significant improvements, the Board continues to express concerns about the condition of the prison’s infrastructure, and ongoing staffing shortages.

The IMB at HMP Cardiff was unable to complete a report for the 2021-22 reporting period, non-submission has been approved by the minister’s delegate.

Letter from Lord James Timpson, Minister of State for Justice, in response to the Cardiff 2023-24 annual report.

The 2023-24 annual report of the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) for HMP Cardiff (published 29 January 2025) highlights the impact of ongoing national prison population pressures. The prison has been at operational capacity or very close to it, for the majority of the reporting year, which has created challenges in ensuring conditions for prisoners are safe, decent and humane.
