41% cut in education provision at HMP Lancaster Farms
In its 2025-26 annual report (published 9 July 2026), the Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) at Lancaster Farms prison expressed concern about the impact of new education contracts on the available provision of education and training. Despite claims from the Ministry of Justice that overall spending on prison education is not being reduced, the IMB highlight that the new prisoner education services contracts, which came into effect in the autumn of 2025, resulted in a 41% reduction in hours of education provided in the first year of the contract at HMP Lancaster Farms.

Prison monitors express concern about healthcare provision at HMP Lancaster Farms
The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) for HMP Lancaster Farms has today (9 July 2025) published its 2024-25 annual report which highlights the increasing number of complaints the Board received about healthcare provision. Issues raised include problems men had accessing specialist mental health services, delays accessing dental and GP services, as well as hospital appointments when moving between prisons, and withdrawal from pain medication.

Changing population places additional pressure on resources at HMP Lancaster Farms
The Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) for HMP Lancaster Farms has today (9 July 2024) published its annual report for the reporting year 2023-24. The Board is pleased to report that relationships between staff and prisoners were observed to be positive but remains concerned about the impact the changing population has had on prisoners’ day to day lives.
